Let’s talk about the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also called the Global Goals.
Broadly speaking, the SDGs are ambitious but achievable, universal goals set by the United Nation’s member states in 2015. The premise is that every country can make social and economic progress to improve the well-being of all people and the planet by 2030. Skeptics may wince and optimists may cheer; the truth is that circumstances around the globe can improve only if people take action to create the world we want to inhabit and pass on to future generations. The 17 SDGs have been designed as the building blocks to advance all societies.
Africa ELI’s work aligns closely with Global Goals 3, 4, and 5. Specifically, our programs promote good health and well-being (#3), quality education (#4) and gender equality (#5). In the coming three weeks, we will take a look at each of those particular goals and describe how we are advancing each ideal through educating the young people of South Sudan.
