2019 is a significant year for Africa ELI. May 19th of this year begins our second decade of providing South Sudanese girls with access to secondary education. 2019 is also significant because it marks our third full year of operations in Uganda since the extraction of students from Yei, South Sudan due to armed conflict. Africa ELI’s strategy of sustainability, steadfast commitment, and responding adaptively to the ever-changing sociopolitical challenges of the region has enabled us to be a long-term agent for change in South Sudan and East Africa.
Over the past decade, Africa ELI has laid a solid foundation of partnership in East Africa and established strong community ties. In 2019, as we continue to support our students while they work hard to achieve their goal of a high school education, we will
- promote standards of education excellence;
- supply access to healthcare;
- focus on building students’ skills;
- provide individualized monitoring and assessment of student progress; and
- coordinate and fund student remediation when necessary.
In addition, we will network with a minimum of 20 educational organizations to ensure a maximization of services for our students.
One of our objectives for 2019 is to take the next step towards full integration with the East African community by transferring leadership of the organization to our local staff. This integration will take place in stages, and we will keep you updated as it progresses.
Our Mission
By providing access to education, Africa ELI prepares young women in South Sudan to become leaders in their families and communities, engage in business enterprise, counteract inequalities, improve health practices, and work toward improving society for the benefit of all citizens.
