An orientation was held for new students at school this past week. Pictured above is Africa ELI Assistant Monitoring and Program Officer, Zaharah Namanda, arriving on campus to attend the orientation with our sponsored students. Topics discussed included academic grading, tutoring opportunities, and behavioral expectations of students.

Congratulations to Africa ELI alumna Grace Dusman on her graduation from the YMCA Comprehensive Institute in Kampala, Uganda. She received a certification in Accounting, and is now searching for a job. Grace is the fifth of six children in her family, and the only one to have graduated from high school and gone on to complete advanced professional training. Africa ELI stands proudly with her in celebration of her academic achievements!

Heavner, Beyers, and Mihlar, LLC, a women-owned law firm, hosted Africa ELI Executive Director, Anita Henderlight, as a speaker for International Women’s Day on March 8 in Decatur, Illinois. Anita shared the story of Africa ELI and described the tremendous desire of girls in South Sudan to receive a high school education. Her presentation at the firm was one of ten programs delivered in central Illinois this past week.
